YANA PNW Community Gathers for End of Summer Celebration

Building Community: YANA PNW Happy Hour Success

In September, YANA’s Pacific Northwest chapter hosted a successful networking happy hour at Stoup Brewing in Seattle, bringing together Yale alumni dedicated to social impact work across the region. The gathering marked an important milestone in building a vibrant local YANA community.

Attendees connected over shared experiences in the nonprofit sector and discussed opportunities for collaboration and learning. The chapter has established multiple communication channels, including LinkedIn and WhatsApp groups, to maintain connections and share opportunities.

Looking ahead, YANA PNW is planning additional events, including learning opportunities focused on topics like financial inclusion, and welcomes volunteers interested in shaping the chapter’s future activities and leadership.

NONPROFIT SPOTLIGHT

Nonprofit Spotlight: Put Me In! Brings Sports to Children of Incarcerated Parents

This month, we’re celebrating Put Me In!, an organization dedicated to ensuring children of incarcerated parents have access to the transformative power of sports. Join us in honoring Co-Founder Khalid Cannon at the YANA Social Impact Conference on October 24.

The Challenge: While youth sports participation provides life-long benefits – including increased self-esteem, social skills development, and teamwork – financing a child’s participation can cost hundreds of dollars per year. For the two-thirds of system-impacted families struggling with basic financial needs, this creates an insurmountable barrier. Children of incarcerated parents already face twice the risk of mental health problems; lack of access to sports compounds these challenges.

The Solution: Put Me In! provides committed recurring annual financial aid grants to children of incarcerated parents, covering registration fees, equipment, travel costs, and other expenses associated with competitive and recreational sports participation. These grants remove financial barriers and ensure every child can experience the proven physical, emotional, and social benefits of athletics.

The Impact: From football equipment to dance classes, from volleyball registration to travel basketball, Put Me In! is helping children access opportunities that build confidence, teach resilience, and create pathways to healthier, more successful futures. With support from advocates like Super Bowl LIII MVP Julian Edelman, the organization is expanding its reach to serve more children across the country.

Celebrating Leadership: We’re proud to honor Put Me In! Co-Founder Khalid Cannon at this year’s YANA Social Impact Conference for his visionary work creating pathways to opportunity for children who need them most.
