Our featured presenter, Graham Finney (Yale ’52, MPA Harvard ’54), will discuss how to develop effective strategic plans and get board-level buy-in, particularly for nonprofits that are new or need rejuvenating.

As examples, he’ll share learnings from his involvement with the revitalization of Friends of the Wissahickon from a stagnant 50-year old low-impact organization to a dynamic force in preserving and restoring this important public park, as well as his experience as a founding and current board member of Mastery Charter Schools, a 23-school nonprofit that is navigating “all the big issues facing nonprofits.”

The evening will include time for you to ask questions, share your own strategic planning challenges, and make informal connections with fellow Yalies and friends in the Philadelphia nonprofit community.

Graham Finney is the founder and former CEO of the Conservation Company, a nationwide strategic planning and management consultant group that advises nonprofits and foundations, as well as a past chair of the Philadelphia Planning Commission, a founder and past president of the 21st Century League, and a recipient of the prestigious Philadelphia Award for community service. He has taught at Yale, Penn, and Haverford College, and has been an active board member of several nonprofits, including International House, Awbury Arboretum, Philadelphia Parks Alliance, William Penn Foundation, Women’s Way, and the Seybert Institution.
