Our speakers from Yale Alumni Service Corps (YASC) will complement the discussion by providing commentary on the impact of the childrens’ arts programming organized during YASC trips. \nFounded in 1988 and located in the Manhattan neighborhood of SoHo\, CMANY unites children and artists to create and share ambitious artwork with their communities and the world. \nREGISTER \n  \n \n  \nPANELISTS: \nAnne Beidler\nArtist\, Professor of Art and Art History\, Agnes Scott College \nAnne Beidler has been on the faculty of Agnes Scott College in Atlanta since 1992\, where she is a professor in the Department of Art and Art History. SUMMARY:Celebrating Service: 5 Years of the YANA-Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Service: 5 Years of the YANA-Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship\nThursday\, October 7 | 7:00pm ET\nDETAILS & REGISTER\n\nJoin Yale Alumni Service Initiatives\, Yale Alumni Nonprofit Alliance (YANA)\, and Dwight Hall at Yale in celebrating five years of successful partnership expanding opportunities for Yale students to create social change. Building upon the framework of the Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship program that transformed community engagement at Yale in 1968 and has operated for more than 50 years\, YANA’s collaborative vision and its networks of support have expanded the program in three key ways: to include seniors who recently graduated\, to sponsor engagement with organizations outside of Greater New Haven\, and to generally grow the reach and impact of the Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship program.\n\nThe joint YANA-Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship provides summer funding to Yale undergraduates and recently graduated seniors for public service and justice-oriented positions. Applicants must have a demonstrated financial need and those who face barriers to exploring opportunities in the nonprofit and social sectors are strongly encouraged to apply. Fellows convene for weekly meetings and receive mentoring and guidance from YANA leaders and Dwight Hall’s professional staff. \nThis panel honors the work that recent YANA-Dwight Hall Summer Fellows have accomplished and explores the impact that YANA-Dwight Hall Summer Fellows feel that the program has had on their academic and career trajectory. It will be moderated by Dwight Hall’s Director of Programming and Evaluation\, Mark Fopeano. \nPANELISTS:\nOlivia Paschal ’18\nHistory PhD Candidate\, UVA \nTrinh Truong ’19\nCofounder\, Bakhita Center \nLuisa Graden ’20\nFulbright Grantee in Madrid

SUMMARY:"Stories of Afghan Refugees: Hope in Resettlement" Panel
DESCRIPTION:Stories of Afghan Refugees: Hope in Resettlement \nYANA Panel\nTuesday\, February 15 | 6:30 PM EST \nSince the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021\, the US evacuated more than 75\,000 Afghans to the United States. This is truly a historic effort\, second in scale only to the Vietnamese resettlement in the 1970’s and made especially difficult by our dismantled resettlement infrastructure – and housing crunch. \nThe trauma suffered by the Afghans — first\, life in a war-torn country\, abrupt departure\, loss of community; and now\, unfamiliar language\, culture\, and future — all of this is unimaginable for those of us who do not share such lived experience. \nJoin us for a discussion with Dr. Richard Mollica (Yale Div MAR)\, Director of the Harvard Program on Refugee Trauma on the importance of storytelling in helping to heal trauma. Learn what the resettlement process is today – and hear the stories of Afghan natives who are working to help their countrymen begin new lives in the U.S. \nREGISTER \n\n\n\nSPEAKERS\n\nKhalil A Arab\, SIVs & Allies Program Manager\, Combined Arms \nShabana Basij-Rasikh\, President\, School of Leadership Afghanistan (SOLA) \nChris George\, Executive Director\, Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS) \nRichard Mollica\, Prof. of Psychiatry\, Harvard Med.; Director\, Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma (HPRT) at Mass Gen. SUMMARY:"Healing Through Compassion and Community" YANA Virtual Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:ADDICTION RECOVERY\nHealing Through Compassion and Community\nYANA Virtual Town Hall\nWednesday\, February 23 | 6:30 PM EST\nAll welcome to attend; Registration required\n\nAddiction in the US was already at a crisis level when Covid struck. The pandemic fueled an increase in financial insecurity and social isolation\, triggering a surge in addiction rates. On February 23rd\, YANA’s Town Hall will address addiction for the first time by describing how two Yale-related nonprofits are using community-based approaches to support recovery. \nRabbi Iggy Gurin-Malous\, CEO of the T’shuvah Center in New York\, and Daniel J. McDermott ’76\, Executive Director of Florida Lawyers Assistance in South Florida\, will describe how both secular and non-secular recovery programs can be effective in treating addiction. \nWe hope you can join us for what promises to be a compelling conversation moderated by YANA’s Executive Director Rachel Littman ‘91. \nREGISTER HERE
