Most children start out as visual communicators\, which makes art one of their first opportunities to make their mark on the world. Art also creates social connections and allows children to communicate in powerful ways. \nJoin us for this insightful conversation on the transformative power of the arts for children. \nOur speakers from the Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMANY) will discuss concepts for delivering virtual arts programming and education to children during the pandemic. Our speakers from Yale Alumni Service Corps (YASC) will complement the discussion by providing commentary on the impact of the childrens’ arts programming organized during YASC trips. \nFounded in 1988 and located in the Manhattan neighborhood of SoHo\, CMANY unites children and artists to create and share ambitious artwork with their communities and the world. \nREGISTER \n  \n \n  \nPANELISTS: \nAnne Beidler\nArtist\, Professor of Art and Art History\, Agnes Scott College \nAnne Beidler has been on the faculty of Agnes Scott College in Atlanta since 1992\, where she is a professor in the Department of Art and Art History. She has been a practicing artist\, scholar\, and teacher for more than 30 years. Beidler’s work has been selected for inclusion in exhibitions throughout the United States\, including The School of the Art Institute of Chicago\, Joan Flasch Artist’s Book Collection in Chicago\, The Fine Arts Library at Cornell University\, The Hudgens Museum in Atlanta\, The Kennedy Museum at Ohio University\, and internationally at The Hollar Gallery in Prague\, Czech Republic (among others www.abeidler.com). Recently\, her work was was included in the international exhibition: The Book as Art: Flight Edition at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport concourse E. Beidler\, her husband Jon Neiditz JD ’85\, and their two daughters\, Hannah and Qiu-ee\, have joined YASC trips to China and twice to India. \nSeth Cameron\nExecutive Director\, CMANY \nSeth Cameron was appointed executive director of Children’s Museum of the Arts in February 2020. An artist\, educator\, and curator\, Cameron co-founded the celebrated artist collective\, The Bruce High Quality Foundation (est. 2001)\, and directed the group’s free art school\, BHQFU\, from 2009 to 2017. From 2004 to 2007\, Cameron served as creative director of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council\, curating the provocative multi-site exhibition\, “A Knock at the Door\,” mining artistic censorship in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. Cameron has lectured extensively across the U.S.\, advocating a de-institutionalization of arts education\, and has taught theory and practice\, intermittently\, at his alma mater\, the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. \nGeorgia Goldberg ’72\nArtist\, Professor of Art and Architecture \nGeorgia Goldberg is an artist who trained and practiced initially as an architect. She studied art at Yale College (departmental honors\, magna cum laude) and at Princeton University\, where she earned a Master of Architecture degree. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the U.S. and is in collection at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo\, among others. She teaches art and architecture at colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area and on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and has studios in both locations. Her installations and drawings collaborate with natural phenomenon such as soil\, wind\, water\, and light and also imagine planet landscapes. While still concerned with nature’s beauty\, she recently began a series of abstract drawings mapping the Underground Railroad\, lynchings\, and police killings of Blacks. On service trips with YASC\, she has taught first to third graders color theory based on the Albers course she took at Yale. \nDanielle Lindenberg\nDirector of Community & School Programs\, CMANY \nDanielle Lindenberg joined CMA in July 2019 as director of community and school programs. She is an arts administrator and educator\, having most recently served as the manager of residency programs at Studio in a School from 2016 to 2019. She started her career as a sixth grade teacher at PS 123\, an elementary school in central Harlem\, through Teach For America. After leaving the classroom and working for a number of years on staff at Teach For America\, Lindenberg returned to the arts and attended Columbia University\, where she earned a master’s degree in Arts Administration in 2015. Her thesis focused on examining arts education practices and programming at cultural institutions across New York City. She also holds a master’s in teaching from Pace University and a bachelor’s in Art History from the University of Wisconsin. \nMODERATOR: \nArikha Moses ’98 PhD \nArikha Moses spent more than 20 years as a serial entrepreneur and executive for medical device companies. She was the founder and chief security officer of TyRx (now Medtronic Infection Control) and Galatea Surgical. She has commercialized multiple drug-eluting biodegradable implantable devices that have been used in millions of patients worldwide. She currently serves as an advisor and investor to early-stage companies dedicated to innovation in biomedicine and sustainability. She serves on the board of YASC and as an agent for the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences alumni fund. Moses received a PhD in Chemistry from Yale\, a BA with honors in chemistry from Brandeis University and has more than 40 issued patents. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

He also co-founded Científico Latino\, a STEM organization that works to bolster the pipeline of underrepresented students in higher education in the sciences. Fernandez is a decorated scientist\, having been named a 2014 Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow and as one of the 100 most inspiring Hispanic/Latinx scientists in America by Cell Mentor. He received his PhD from the Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry Department at Yale and is currently a postdoctoral scientist at Columbia University.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMorris is the founder and chief executive officer of Church Health in Memphis\, Tennessee\, which provides quality\, affordable healthcare for working\, uninsured people and their families. A family practice physician and an ordained United Methodist minister\, Morris has revolutionized healthcare for the working poor in Memphis\, recruiting doctors\, nurses\, dentists\, and more to volunteer\, all while securing a broad base of financial support from the faith community. Buoyed by those efforts\, Church Health has grown to become the largest faith-based\, privately funded health center in the nation\, serving more than 75\,000 patients and handling approximately 44\,000 patient visits annually. For his efforts and great work\, Morris has been recognized by major organizations including the American Medical Association\, which awarded him its Excellence in Medicine Award in 2008.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nG. To date\, SNUGS National has served more than 150 families and has raised more than $15\,000 in donations\, and it has cultivated a 13-member board with teams in finance\, communications\, marketing\, and development. As a student of Global Affairs\, Sardis is on pace to graduate in May 2021. She has a specific interest in health initiatives on the African continent. DESCRIPTION:28th Ave Beach Cleanup with The Mission Continues\nBuilding Up & Breaking Down\nOctober 24\,2020 10:00 AM-03:00 PM \n28th Ave Beach:\n119-6 28th Ave\, Queens\, NY 11354 \n\nEvent Overview \n\nJoin the Queens Platoon as we partner up again with Coastal Prevention Network to build up on the 28th ave beach. Some of the tasks we will be focusing on are the following: 1. There are steps that leads to the beach that are on their last leg. We need volunteers who will be willing to come out and help rebuild the stairs to make it easier to access the area and avoid serious injuries. 2. There are very large debris that are still on the beach that we would very like to get rid of. We need people to help break it down and take it out of the beach area so we can open up more space for people to use and capitalize on it by building something new there when the weather gets warmer again. 3. There is still some trash we didn’t manage to get to the last time we was out there and was hoping to cover the area that we didn’t get. If you or someone you know is interested in either breaking some stuff\, building stuff or both\, please sign up below. \nWhat To Wear: TMC swag and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in. DESCRIPTION:Racism in Healthcare: Racism is a Public Health Crisis\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nJoin us for a dialogue about Racism in Healthcare with Dr. Krenie Stowe\, recipient of the Ally Award from the Center for the Healing of Racism in 1995. \nKrenie Stowe describes herself as a mother and activist first\, a pediatrician and attorney second. She is a board-certified pediatrician with over 30 years of experience in the trenches of clinical medicine. \nGrounded in a lifelong commitment to social justice\, she is a tireless advocate of sweeping health care reform. \nShe received her BA from Yale University in 1981\, an MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1985. Following a pediatric internship at New York University Medical Center\, she attended Harvard Law School\, graduating magna cum laude in 1990. She then returned to New York to complete pediatric residency training at Montefiore Medical Center’s Residency Program in Social Medicine. \nCommitted to providing medical care to underserved communities\, she has worked with Native American communities rural North Dakota and Portland\, Oregon\, with migrant communities in Oregon’s agricultural valley and urban immigrant communities in Massachusetts. \nShe practiced for 19 years in Texas\, founding the Frontis Project\, a non-profit health care facility that provided medical care\, emergency assistance\, and social support and advocacy services to 11\,500 children and their families; then establishing HEAL\, Health Education\, Advocacy & Literacy\, with a mission to support\, inform and empower people caring for children and to reform the role of health care in the lives of individuals and in our society at large. \nDr Stowe describes her approach to medicine as follows: “My work emphasizes empowerment\, education and prevention\, encouraging people to be active participants in care rather than passive recipients of care. \nClass\, race/ethnicity and gender/gender identity all continue to profoundly impact health status and access to care. To address health disparities\, we must identify and break down economic and racial and cultural barriers to care\, as well as deeper internal barriers that stem from feelings of isolation\, hopelessness and marginalization.” \nREGISTER
